Generational Diversity is a popular topic, but there is simply too much hype out there about it. Speakers and authors use the topic to make fun of people, blame entire generations for problems, and otherwise patronize millions of people (particularly younger people). They don’t back up or fully explain their generalizations, and there is a lot of inconsistency in terms of the start dates and end dates of the generations. It can be very frustrating.
This book counteracts that trend by presenting some clear theory on generations and actionable advice for applying the knowledge in a work context. The book goes over the characteristics of the four generations in today’s workforce and gets right into how you can apply knowledge about generations to real issues in the workplace—and when you shouldn’t.
It was written in 2007, and the revised and updated version will be available in early 2012. For now you can get a copy of the original on Lulu. I also offer speaking and consulting on generational diversity.
